Thanks to Rajeff Sports' founder Tim Rajeff who's sending their rep Matt Callies and pro staffers Hogan Brown and Chris King to this event, the GGACC is pleased to offer another Echo / Airflo Demo Day with Rajeff Sports.  For some info on these special presenters, see their brief bios at the bottom of this event description.

Here's your big chance to hear from some renowned experts about new fly lines and fly rods, and tips for fishing them too!

This free all-day affair will be held on Saturday, June 15 starting at 9:00AM, and include a special BBQ lunch prepared by Xavier Carbonnet and his crew.

The goal of this event is to provide anglers with a chance to test the newest gear and to hear about some of the latest ideas in the fly fishing industry!  Knowing how hard it is to check out a new fly line at a fly shop based on the parking lot cast, the team from Rajeff Sports wants you to come test their new Airflo lines and learn about some new fishing tricks and casting techniques at the Golden Gate Angling and Casting Club!

Current line-up of activities and presentations planned for this year

Matt Callies:  Matt was born and raised in San Diego, chasing bass in water hazards since he was five. When he moved to Northern California in his early twenties, fly fishing got a solid grip on him and his imagination. He started tying because flies were spend-y and moved into his truck because houses are spend-y too!  Matt soon figured out how to create flies that mimicked what was on the bass market currently. When his truck was about to explode with materials and gear, he was re-introduced to civilization out of necessity and started to guide and work as a sales rep for some of the best companies in the fly-fishing industry. Matt is now the Director of Product Development for Loon Outdoors, as well as managing sales for eight companies in the southwest, including Rajeff Sports (Airflo fly lines, Echo rods, and Airlock indicators), Abel reels, and other rod and reel mfrs.  He maintains that his family still gives him total support since his wife, his fish-bum kids, and his two labs never hesitate to spend a day on the water with him exploring new areas to fish!

Hogan Brown:  Growing up on the Lower Yuba River as an only child who had a bug collection, and really liked catching fish using imitations of those bugs, didn’t make Hogan the coolest kid growing up.  Good thing he got over it and persevered. He finally decided to start rowing a drift boat and guiding the lower Yuba instead of living in the woods bitter and resentful.  Now living in Chico, CA, Hogan guides for anything that swims -- from trout to striped bass and carp to steelhead.  He is equally at home in a drift boat or poling a mud flat for carp. Guiding the Lower Yuba River, Feather River, and Lower Sacramento River for stripers, trout, steelhead, shad, carp, and bass has made him one of the most versatile and experienced guides in Northern California. His trout, bass, carp, and striper flies have become well-known staples in his home territory of Northern California and throughout the West. Hogan is a Scott Fly Rods, Lamson - Waterworks Reels, Costa Del Mar Sunglasses, Stealth Craft Boats, Airflo Fly Lines, and Echo Rods pro-staffer along with being a Simms Ambassador and Montana Fly Co. contract fly tier. Hogan is also co-founder of the California Bass Union dedicated to developing, sharing, and growing fly fishing for bass in his home state of California. Hogan happens to be a connoisseur of fine ales and fermented grains, a home gardener, a die-hard San Francisco Giants baseball and Notre Dame Football fan, along with being a husband to his lovely wife and a father to two young boys.

Chris King:  Chris was introduced to fly fishing at a young age. During his high school years in New Jersey, he traveled the eastern seaboard in search of trout with his father. Planning to take only a semester off from college, he then spent 8 years in Colorado where he turned his fly fishing passion into a career. From there, he made his way West where he found a home in Redding, CA.  Chris soon met up with GGACC's famed casting instructor Mel Krieger and was mentored by him for 6 years in fly casting and casting instruction. This led to his pursuit of becoming a certified casting instructor with the International Federation of Fly Fishers (now FFI).  Chris is currently FFI Master Certified, Two-Hand Certified, and an emeritus member of that organization's Casting Board of Governors. Chris still resides in Redding with his wife and two children and has been both guiding and teaching casting in Northern California for over 20 years. He continues to exhibit the same passion for sharing his love of the outdoors and for fly fishing as he did in his first year of guiding back in Colorado so many years ago.
