Rondy:  Lower Sac Shad Single Hand Rods

Dates:  May 18, 2020

Leader:  John DiCerbo  mailto:johndicerbo@gmail.com

Number of anglers (including leader):  6

Description:  Note new format for this Rondy:  A day of Shad fishing on the Sacramento River with single hand rods.  We will meet in Hamilton City at the Irving Finch boat launch.  Our guides will take us by Jet boats to local sandbars where we will fish.  We will be 3 boats and 6 anglers.  Unfortunately the days of all of us fishing together are no more - that giant sandbar is gone.  So the 3 boats will head off in different directions.  Fishing could be wading or from the boat, depending on flows.

You need to be able to cast a shooting head effectively to fish for Shad.  Anglers will be expected to rotate positions when wading so that everyone can catch fish.  Boats will leave the ramp at noon and return us to the ramp at dusk/dark.  This is a day trip and most people are likely to drive home afterward (roughly a 2 hour drive time back to the Bay Area).  Our guides will provide flies, lunch, and drinks.  Their website is http://www.orlandoutfitters.com/index.html

Suggested Gear:  6-8wt single hand rods (fast action preferred). Carry Type 2 through Type 6 shooting heads, or equivalent tungsten sink tips.  If you bring just one shooting head, make it a Type 4.  A regular floating fly line will NOT work!  You must bring shooting heads or sink tips!  Leaders are relatively short 10-12# tippet.  The guides will have shad flies if needed.

Cost:  The fee for this Rondy is $275.00.

Other expenses will be lunch, parking fee (bring small bills), and guide gratuities.

Cancellation Policy:  There are no refunds.  In the event that a member is, for any reason, unable to attend, he may resell his slot (rod) to another GGACC member (by first pulling from the waitlist if one exists).  It is the sole responsibility of the member to manage this transaction.  This is not the responsibility of the leader or club.
