Registration is closed

This one-day LTFF Intrmd. Truckee River Fish-out out of Reno, NV, on Saturday, October 9, 2019 is offered initially to ONLY those registered 3rd year Learn to Fly Fish (LTFF) students who indicated via email their interest in this particular fish-out on that date. This fish-out will be limited to no more than 7 members and initially only to those 7 students who responded previously.  If any of those 7 individuals have not completed registering by 12 noon on Friday, Oct. 11, their spots may be filled from the waitlist or offered to recent LTFF alums.

Description:  This fish-out will be led by Doug Ouellette (well et') who has long guided on the Nevada stretch of the Truckee River, targeting big browns especially.  This informational day will be a combination of a brief tour of access points  on the Truckee River from Stateline through the City of Reno (with provided map), to be followed by Doug’s talk in the city park on where, when, and how to fish this river, including instruction on his preferred rigging for tight-line nymphing.  After that, Doug will spread people out on the river and help coach you as you fish some of the better stretches of it through town.  He will provide leader material and some flies for tight-line nymphing, but suggests that you bring your own flybox and usual fishing gear in case you want to change up to try something different.

Cost:  The registration fee will be $150 per person for the full day to cover Doug's fee and costs for supplied flies and instructional materials.

NV Fishing License:  All registrants must have a valid 2019 Nevada fishing license on their person by the 9:00am meet-up time.  The Nevada 1-day Fishing Permit for Nonresidents costs $18.00 -- plus $7.00 for each consecutive day added to a 1-day permit.  (The Nonresident Annual Fishing Permit valid for 1 year from date of purchase costs $80.) Fishing permits may be purchased online at www.ndowlicensing.com

Required Gear:  Bring your fly rod (say 5-6wt rod, 9 ft. or longer) with a floating fly line. In addition to your usual fly fishing gear, Doug asks that you be sure to bring waders (with at least one belt!), wading boots, wading staff, sunglasses (polarized!), and sun protection.  Also be sure to pack a lunch for yourself, as well as drinking water needed for the day.

Meeting Time & Place:   Participants shall meet Doug in Cabela's parking lot "B" (turn left into this lot as you approach the store) on Saturday morning at 9:00AM.  Please be prompt, but do call or text Doug at 1-775-722-2267 if you are running more than a couple minutes late.  The address for Cabela's (right off I-80) is 8650 Boomtown Rd,, Verdi, NV and the store hours are 9am-9pm M-Sat., 9-7 Sun. (phone 1-775-829-4100).  John Murphy may or may not be joining you depending on what his back doctor says that week.
