FUN-damentals of Fly Casting as taught by Chris Korich!

GGACC honored club member CHRIS KORICH, 12-time World Casting Champion and the coach of the U.S. Casting Team (and personal coach of the current women's world champ, 14yr-old Maxine McCormick) has generously agreed to provide a first-ever hands-on fly casting clinic at the GGACC casting ponds for some lucky students in the Learn to Fly Fish program!

We will accept up to 24 participants who are current students in this year's  Learn to Fly Fish (LTFF) "Beginner" class and are first to register online for this special FREE event to be held on Sunday, September 9, from 2:00-4:00pm.

The date and precise time of opening of the online registration in the week before the clinic will be announced by email to those LTFF Beginner students eligible to participate.

Additional LTFF Beginners, as well as more experienced LTFF students, past and present, are welcome to attend this clinic to watch and listen to Chris' unique teaching style and concise instruction (bring a chair or blanket to sit on the grass slope).  We promise, it will be both entertaining and eye opening!

This special casting session will teach the following foundational skills for fly fishing, in ways you simply haven't heard or experienced before!

  •     Skeletal Grip & Stance Alignment (at targets!)
  • ·     Roll Casting
  • ·     Line Retrieving & Extending
  • ·     Fish Fighting & Line Management
  • ·     Short-line False Casting

While the class will focus on mastering basic fly casting skills by performing FUN drills, Chris will also teach how to practice effectively on your own (or with a fishing friend) and suggest excellent training methods for doing so.

Location:     Golden Gate Angling & Casting Club pools, GG Park, SF

Date:            Sunday, September 9, 2018

Time:            2:00 PM to 4:00 PM

The session will follow the morning's scheduled monthly "Accuracy Casting Games" for competitive casters and wannabes -- come early and watch others cast if you haven't done so before. First-timers are always welcome to participate (see separate calendar event for info).

Korich's clinic registrants will be working together (in pairs) at 12 casting stations while using new shorter training outfits provided at each station. Your own 4-6wt single-hand fly rods will also be utilized (your reels should have a floating line and a dressed yarn fly on a pre-attached "old" tapered leader from 7-9 ft long and yarn); however, DO NOT assemble or string up your outfit until instructed to do so.

And do yourself a big favor, DON’T practice and thereby "tire out" or engrain bad habits before the clinic starts!
