Rondy:  Klamath River Steelhead

Dates:  September 19-23, 2018

Leader:  Don Forbes  415-717-2312  mailto:don.forbes@yahoo.com

Number of anglers:  7

Description:  The Klamath is a beautiful river in a really wild section of California.  We will be staying in cabins at the Spey Gee resort, which is located about 1/4 mile below the Weitchpec Bridge, and the confluence of the Trinity River. From the resort there are a lot of options:  you can fish the water directly below the cabins, or drive a short distance up to the lower Trinity and fish the pools, just before it spills into the Klamath. You can also head upstream towards Orleans (14 mi) fishing Big Bar and in the town of Orleans which has some great fly water. From the cabins, you can drive 10 miles downriver to Young's Bar, and just beyond that Notchko. This is some of the best fly fishing water anywhere and we usually have the river to ourselves.  You'll have the option of walking & wading, or using a kayak or pontoon boat. We will have kayaks for four anglers, or anyone can bring their own kayak or pontoon boat. There will be a pre-meeting (TBD) this summer to discuss these options, as well as logistics, lodging, gear, etc.

Suggested Gear:  This is a cast, swing, mend, and hang-on Rondy!  Long casts are a plus, but you'll find fish within 50 feet. Either 6-8 wt single hand rods, or 4-7wt spey rods, with floating lines, are recommended. Waders, boots with felt or studded soles, and wading staffs are a must!  It's slippery.  Don't forget to get a 2018 Steelhead card in addition to your California fishing license.

Cost:  The fee for this Rondy is $25

Other expenses will be transportation, lodging and food.  Cost per angler will be approx $70 a night for lodging. I will ask for volunteers to cook a meal on one of the nights. That option is much better than any of the local fare (very so-so) and even then would be 14 miles away.

Cancellation Policy:  There are no refunds.  In the event that a member is, for any reason, unable to attend, he may resell his slot (rod) to another GGACC member (by first pulling from the waitlist if one exists).  It is the sole responsibility of the member to manage this transaction.  This is not the responsibility of the leader or club.
