This year's Pond Cleaning will take place Monday, March 28 starting at 7:30 AM. Along with the SF Rec & Parks Dept., we again need lots of good help from the club's membership to get the ponds in shape for Mel's Day on April 9 and the Spey-O-Rama on April 22-24, as well as for all of us and the members of the public who use the ponds.
Please consider giving the GGACC a few hours of your time. In return, we will start you out with coffee and breakfast, give you a broom or a shovel to use, or a wheelbarrow to push, or maybe you'd like to be part of the hose crew. We will break from our work for a delicious lunch and, if need be, finish the job up afterward.
If we get enough helpers, we should be able to wrap up our work by 12:30 PM or so, and then take a few "Team" photos and enjoy a nice meal. SF Rec & Parks Dept. will provide the tools and a handful of employees to help out. After the ponds are cleaned, they will also coordinate or perform: removal of any aquatic growth in the ponds, repair of cracks in the concrete, repainting of the lines in the center pond, and re-stenciling the numbers along the pond's edge.
All you need to bring is your waders or a pair of rubber boots, maybe a pair of work gloves, and the willingness to get the job done. That being said, this is necessarily on a weekday and most members who are available on a weekday are retired and perhaps a little less able-bodied. So we really hope that some of our younger members will take the day, or just that morning, off from work to join us.
We need at least 30 solid commitments to help. To volunteer for this activity on Monday, March 28th from 7:30 AM until early afternoon, please send an email to this year's Pond Cleaning Coordinator (again) Thom Jaquysh: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Feel free to contact Thom with any questions -- he'll be very glad to hear from you.
